Squirrel Loves Cold Coffee
by rss@youtube.com (LarkPash)
5 Oct 2008 at 4:29pm
This is one of my recent rescued squirrels named Camo. She's around 9-10 weeks old. I was sitting at my desk and heard a loud crash noise and pulled out my camera. Unfortunately you can't see her in my trash can, but she was in there licking chocolate off fun-size twix and hershey candy wrappers. Then she decided to play around while I had the camera going and began helping herself to some of my cold coffee. Definitely not a healthy diet. I don't recommend giving coffee and candy bars to a squirrel! It will only aid them in their world domination.
And no, she does not eat these things on a regular basis. Only when she is getting herself into trouble. Which frankly, tends to be pretty frequently. Squirrels are actually a lot smarter than people give them credit for.

The first 2 weeks of the 90 day challenge have just flown by. So far its proved to me that if you put your positive intentions out there then positive things will start to happen. Whether it be in my social life or with my business Im amazed how well things are going.
However this video is bout water or rather my intention to drink more of it. I hate water...Being an Irish / Italian I during strong black coffee, Guinness and wine. Everywhere I go though people are committing themselves to be healthier and consume more water. I have an extremely healthy diet food wise but water just doesnt do it for me.
So my commitment is to consume more H20 on a regular basis.
If you would like to know more about the 90 day challenge please get in touch by the following ways -

Breakthrough: Eight Steps to Wellness
by Suzanne Somers
Amazon Price: $15.57
Customer Review: Some of the vitamin regimens and cleanses seem a bit extreme. What I don't understand is how Suzanne can take botox injections (which she admitted on Larry King show) when she promotes putting only natural healthy intake for the body. And we all know eating healthy and getting enough sleep is good for us, nothing new there. One would have to have a lot of money and discipline to adhere to the whole plan. Organic foods and all those supplements and the naturalists doctors... ok for someone with Suzanne money, but not "Josephine Six Pack" budget.
Eat This Not That!: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, ...

Customer Review: From: www.BasilAndSpice.com
Book Review: Eat This Not That (Rodale, 2008) by David Zinczenko
The prolific writer David Zinczenko, Editor-in-Chief of Men's Health Magazine is regularly publishing books that assist the consumer with better food choices. His latest title--Eat This Not That!: The No-Diet Weight Loss Solution, is chock full of glossy photos of food choices from chain restaurants. Packed with "secrets" about how to save on calories when dining out, at a family barbeque, or while purchasing groceries, this softcover is small enough to take on the road.
A few years ago, my good friends, Mike and Betty, opened a Jimmy John's sandwich franchise. The business was the first in our suburban Florida neighborhood and did quite well. Spread across the United States, you know what you're getting when you walk in the door. And that is probably one of the greatest advantages of franchise dining, you'll know what to expect. Zinczenko says that what you probably don't know is that Jimmy John's vegetables are from local sources and are delivered on a daily basis, ensuring freshness. Unlike Subway, Jimmy John's meats are delivered unsliced, and both veggies and meats are cut daily. This is true. My friend Betty also arrived before dawn to freshly bake the bread--both white and whole wheat.
Zinczenko adds that to save on calories--the glory of his book--eat the Turkey Breast Slim Sub rather than the Turkey Tom. His additional secret is to pass on the mayo and substitute avocado spread--shaving off 200 calories, 24 grams of fat, and 98 grams of sodium. Other worthy picks are the Totally Tuna Sub (507 calories) and the Vegetarian Sub (290 calories). Zinczenko advises everyone to pass on the Pepe Sub (684 calories), the Gourmet Veggie Club (856 calories), and my son's favorite--The J.J. Gargantuan (1,008 calories)!
My favorite lunch was specially made by Betty--the Unwich. A sandwich without bread, rolled in a lettuce wrap instead!
Other notable restaurant chains mentioned by Zinczenko: Applebee's, Sbarro, Schlotzsky's, Smoothie King, Starbucks, Taco Bell, Wendy's, McDonald's, KFC, Denny's, and many others. Whether you're doing the Midnight breakfast with friends, or catching a mid-morning brunch on the run, there are still good food choices available, but it's up to you to make them.

ChefMD's Big Book of Culinary Medicine: A Food Lover's Road Map to Losing Wei...
by John La Puma, Rebecca Powell Marx
Amazon Price: $16.47
Customer Review: This book has completely changed how I choose food--and I thought I already knew a lot about healthy eating. Now I know how to maximize nutrition even in the foods I already eat (like melon and broccoli) by how I cook and store them. I have seen a real difference in my nails and hair, and my eye doctor recently told me, after examining my eyes, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it."
I love watching La Puma on his ChefMD.com website--he's funny and gives great advice. And his book is funny and well written. Highly recommended.
The South Beach Diet Supercharged: Faster Weight Loss and Better Health for Life

Skinny Bitch
by Kim Barnouin, Rory Freedman
Amazon Price: $11.16
Customer Review: I still have not received the item and it has been over a month. About 10 days ago I notified the seller and they did reply but had I not sent them a message I would have never heard from them. For all I know the item had been lost in the mail. I am very dissatisfied with the whole thing. I should have bought it from Amazon rather than an independant seller.
You: On A Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management
by Mehmet C. Oz, Michael F. Roizen
Amazon Price: $16.50
Customer Review: I love the way the information is presented, it really drives home the importance of feeding your body the right stuff. It also inspires you to work hard at taking care of yourself both by what you eat and the importance of exercise and being still and relieving stress.
The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and...
by T. Colin Campbell, Thomas M. Campbell II
Amazon Price: $11.53
Customer Review: The impact of this book literally changed my life, my family's life and hopefully many others I am able to pass this information along to. As a health care provider, an avid reader and someone who used to think I was making great choices, I now have a much deeper understanding of nutritional value and the true impact diet has on our entire well being. The author has compiled and heavily contributed to one of the most comprehensive all-encompassing, indisputable realm of facts on the "foods" we eat that I have seen to date. Don't think you've already heard it! This is NOT a "diet" book! This is a book of truths and if you have any interest what so ever in living healthy, long and happy and seeing those around you experience the same, then read this book! I started making changes in my eating habits at the first chapter and just a few weeks later, I can't tell you how much better I feel, mentally and physically. Let the China Study show you the repeated scientific evidence of HOW, WHAT and WHY the foods you eat do what they do to/for the human body, then make your own choices! Don't let genetics and/or commonality of diease process, i.e., heart disease, diabetes, cancers, etc. lead you to believe this is simply your hand in life! You truly need to have this knowledge to understand that you can have control over your health and happiness. Blessings in Great Health!
Eat Right 4 Your Type: The Individualized Diet Solution to Staying Healthy, L...
by Peter J. D'Adamo
Amazon Price: $16.47
Customer Review: The author is a naturopath who claims he can heal people through diets designed to fit 4 blood types (A, B, 0, AB). If this were the thesis of this book, I would simply accept the author's word for it. Many non-conventional doctors use different media and methods to convey their healing abilities and, while the real nature of their systems baffles scientific analysis, fact is that they can heal. Unfortunately the author reached great success by stitching a delirious "scientific" theory around his thesis. I'll be expressing only few major critiques.
1) The evidence he presents to support his thesis is 100% circumstantial. About a third of the book sounds like this : "John, who was suffering for this and that, came to my office. After putting him on the right diet, his symptoms reverted or regressed". Circumstantial evidence can be used as a starting point but it cannot be used to prove a theory, nonetheless the author sells his theories as if they were the Gospel
2) D'Adamo states that group 0 is the blood group of hunters-gatherers. The group A are the farmers and the group B are the nomads. Well, this is not true. Go in the data bank and look for yourself. As an example, you'll notice that very many hunters-gatherers (Inuit and Ainu among others) have a lower group 0 incidence than peoples who have been farmers for millennia. The only major hunter-gatherer population fitting his scenario is the American Indian (both North and South). Amerindians were bottlenecked during their migration from Kamchatka to Alaska. Obviously, concepts like "genetic drift" are alien to the author.
3) Nowhere in the scientific literature could one find any of his "studies" he claimed were being wrapped up at the time of publication
4) The auhtor's knowledge of the biochemistry of lectins, albeit seemingly sound to most people, is primitive and incomplete. He is not just trying to keep it simple: he dismisses or ignores everything that may hinder his "truth".
5) For D'Adamo's theory to be valid, food lectins must remain functionally intact through the stomach, the intestine and, in many cases, the cooking process. Moreover they should remain invisible to the immune system. This is frankly hard to believe. The author states that lectins do in fact survive digestion (no prove or literature is presented on this) and completely ignores the host immune reaction.
Again, I am not questioning that D'Adamo may have the ability to heal peop...
