Habit #7 — Keeping a Journal
Keep a daily journal of everything you eat. As you go through the day, list everything that you consume and its approximate number of calories. Also keep track of your weight, your waist measurement, and your workout routines. By writing down what you eat each day, you will bring an intense awareness to what you are putting into your body, helping you to make wiser food choices and adjust your activity level after you’ve consumed too much. Remember this: You can eat all you want without gaining weight—as long as you burn it off. By keeping track of the food and calories you’ve consumed, you’ll be able to alter your cardio and aerobic workouts or add additional activities to your day to compensate. You'll also be able to eat a little less the next day to even out overindulgences.
Keep track of how much water you’re drinking, how many breathing exercises you’ve done, and how often you’ve meditated. Write down everything: your thoughts, your dreams, your goals, and even the obstacles that arise. Note the cravings you’ve had and whether or not you overcame them. Anthony Robbins, the great personal development author and speaker, says, "If your life is worth living, it’s also worth recording." A journal can be very rewarding in many different ways.
you and you have a recipe for diet disaster. Bringing a couple of healthy snacks with you will also keep you away from the vending machines and all the unhealthy choices they contain.
