“Furnish the palace with rare art and antiques from around the world and decorate it with rare jewels such as the eyes of man have never seen,” said the genie’s master, thinking that this command would surely keep the genie busy for some time.
“It is done,” said the genie, returning soon. Then he asked, “What next?” with a rather ravenous look in his eyes.
The man, now a little nervous as he realized how hard it would be to keep the genie busy, thought quickly and said:
“Genie! Next I would like for you to solve the problem of world hunger and when you have completed that, find a viable alternative to fossil fuels, and after that an immediate solution to global warming.”
The man then hurriedly left to find the mystic.
“Sir, the genie, does all that I ask almost instantly,” complained the man to the mystic. “It is not possible to keep him busy for long.”
“But keep him busy you must, or else devour you he will,” warned the mystic.
“But I have given him difficult tasks and he completes them in a trice,” said the man desperately. “Here he comes now, after I have asked him to solve world hunger, find an alternative to fossil fuels, and a solution to global warming. What should I do?” he asked the mystic nervously.
The mystic, being wise, plucked one of the curly hairs from his body and gave it to the man, saying, “Here. Give this to the genie and tell him to straighten the hair between his fingers and stand it on its end in his palm.”
